Residential project (October 27, 2019)

  • Type of building: Single-family house / dwelling. Residents since 1994, house built before 1970.
  • Requirements: The three most used doors, the key handles have loosened over time and are of builder’§ grade. Each of the “entrance” knobs unlocks with its own key. So three keys are needed to enter the same house.
  • Expectations: Monsieur wants knobs that do not have to be wiggled to turn and unlock. Madame wants to take the opportunity to replace the knob sets with more secure ones, to increase safety and security.
    • Their store visit allowed us to assess their needs and advise them with the adequate security. Our locksmith consultant introduces them to different qualities and brands [LSDA, Dorex and Emtek] that the Maisonneuves could see and hold in their hands, and to compare – seeing the options of models, styles and finishes [colors].
    • For each of the doors, they opted to add a deadbolt to increase security [better than ”entrance” locking knobs] and for a “passage function” handle to avoid accidentally getting caught locked out outside [without the key]. The three locks will be mounted on the same key at no additional cost.
    • With their photos taken before their visit to the store, we can establish the condition of the doors and the installation time: three new holes will have to be drilled for the new deadbolts. The existing knob holes will be reused to accommodate the new “passage” knobs.
  • Hardware evaluation and advice: in store

  • Solutions:
    • We present a quote for three brands and for installation.
    • The Maisonneuves chose Emtek for its strurdy and superior quality, for the choice of the desired model and for the available finish [find in our catalog and online].
    • One of our Mobile Service locksmiths went to their house to install the locks and knobs on all three doors.
  • Results: Mr. Maisonneuve found the knobs which are solid and functional; and Mrs. Maisonneuve finds herself more secure with the locks and is very satisfied with the choice of style and finish that complements the architecture of their home. They end up with just one new key, at their request, and have peace of mind.
